FAW Issue Statement on Historical Sex Abuse

25th November 2016

Dear Club Safeguarding Officer,

I’m sure that you’re aware of the recent press reports with regards to allegations of historical sexual abuse in football. We wish to assure you of the Football Association of Wales’ (FAW) commitment to the safety and well-being of players, and commend those individuals who have come forward thus far for the dignity and courage that they have shown.

Football should be a safe, enjoyable and positive experience for all and we take all allegations of abuse extremely seriously.

The FAW fully supports the NSPCC’s dedicated helpline for those who have been victims of abuse in the game, which is staffed by independent, experienced NSPCC professionals, who can offer support and guidance for victims of sexual abuse. We would urge anyone who requires support, or has information relating to abuse, current or historical, to come forward. The contact number for the helpline is 0800 023 2642.

Additionally, the FAW Safeguarding website has information relating to our policies, practices and procedures as well as details as to how allegations should be managed and this can be viewed at
